The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has secured over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chair of selectors Bailey has declared that skipper Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that remained unresolved.

Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series kicking off on November 21 in Western Australia.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of being involved.

"We know that time is getting short and multiple considerations at play, aside from his injury, but additional elements," he commented.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a key capacity. Hopefully starting in Perth. If not, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with recurrences in multiple past seasons causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in a limited period.

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

He mentioned that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, veteran batsman Smith will take over the captaincy.

Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the first Test as an all-rounder," he elaborated.

"He was only going to play the starting games anyway. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for a short period, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
