The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.
Video review systems will make its debut at Wimbledon this year.
Players are granted the ability to challenge specific calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step comes just a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can request.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
